PayPal Setup
The website application is configured to work with PayPal's 'Website Payments Standard™' payment services. A valid PayPal™ account is required to use this service.
This website application is configured to take advantage of Paypal's "Instant Payment Notification", or 'IPN' feature and its proper set up is important if you want transactions to be recorded in your member records.
The Payment Notification Address that needs to be entered into your PayPalTM account is given to you on your PayPal Setup page. You must enter this address into your PayPal account EXACTLY as it appears. Look for a link in your PayPal Profile called Instant Payment Notification Preferences which loads the page where you can paste in the IPN that appears on your Memberize PayPal Setup page.
Recurring Billing - Membership Plans that specify automatic recurring payments create a Subscription inside your PayPal account that controls the membership payments to you. If this Subscription is cancelled in PayPal (by user or payee) then the member will be cancelled inside Memberize via the PayPal IPN and the matching of the Subscription ID in Member Data Order ID field with the ID contained in PayPal. These PayPal Subscriptions cannot be controlled remotely from Memberize; in order to cancel these subscription payments the user or payee must log in to their PayPal account and cancel the IPN.
To prevent an invalid PayPal Subscription from precipitating a member cancellation remove the Subscription ID from the Members Order ID field (PayPal subscription IDs always begin with "S-"). You may elect to store this ID number for future reference in the Comments field.
Note:
Membership and event registration transactions utilizing PayPal™ will record
the applicable membership or event registration transaction as "Pending"
prior to sending the user to the PayPal site. If and when the transactions
are completed on the PayPal site and
positive confirmation is received at the IPN address specified,
the applicable transactions will be re-classified as complete.
Not sure why a particular member or event registration is shown as "Pending"? Check your PayPal account to see if the transaction was successfully completed for that member.
Is PayPal rejecting renewals with a "invoice has already been paid" message? Check your Profile / Payment Receiving Preferences for a "...allow multiple payments per invoice" setting. Check this box to allow PayPal to accept subsequent renewal payments.
